Jaguars are large cats indigenous to South America. They are usually yellow with black spots, but are also sometimes black. This is known as melanism. (Diablo is a melanistic jaguar). Melanistic big cats (jaguars and
leopards) are sometimes referred to as the general term "black panther", but that's inaccurate. Melanistic jaguars and leopards still have spots, but they have to be in direct sunlight for us to see them. Diablo came to Bear Creek as an infant zoo surplus animal in June of 2001. Diablo is the father of our jaglions.
